Taylor - used your method on my omega seamaster XL and it worked perfectly. Just wanted to thank you for the tips. Mine is flawless after using 0.5 to polish the entire crystal. Thanks again

Thanks for the comments guys! This method is not foolproof, and if the scratch is too large or too deep, there's a good chance it won't work. This is primarily good for very faint hairlines, or very small marks. You might try taking it to a local watchmaker to see if they can get better results. Good luck!

Bob, you are correct...I noticed this awhile after doing mine. What I ended up doing was masking off the bezel, and hitting the entire crystal with a fine micron paste to soften the edges where I masked off the crystal originally. Good catch!

I've used this method to remove 2 scratches from a sapphire crystal. These repairs were made on different locations on the crystal and approximately a year apart.

At first the results appeared to be perfect - close scrutiny under various lighting and angles show no imperfections.

However I've recently discovered that if you wet the crystal or breathe some water vapor onto it, the repair sites (squares formed by the masking tape) become clearly visible. Once the moisture is wiped off it is invisible again.

Therefore the results are not flawless.

To the above poster...sorry, but you are mistaken. All current Panerai watches have AR coating on the inside of the crystal NOT on the outside.

A/R coatings are on the outside, not the inside. So if your watch has one the diamond paste will take it off along with the scratches...

The best way of doing the scratch removal is to pop off the dive bezel first, you do this by putting a blade under the bezel and just popping it up. This is safest because the metal is always very soft compared to the paste.

Also you normally will only need 3 pastes sometimes only 2... If you have any deep scratches you need to start with 360 mesh or 50 micron paste... if you have very light scratches you should skip right to 600 mesh or 30 micron paste.... finish with 1200 mesh or 15 micron paste.

If you have major scratches it is also easiest to get pieces of plexiglass for each grade of paste you will use. Put your dab of paste on the plexiglass and then press and rub the watch onto this... the idea is to forced the diamonds into the plexiglass which will then create a sort of sand paper out of the plexiglass... This will work much better than trying to do it with your finger. The only thing you must remember using this method is that it only works with crystals that are flat.

Your best bet would be to check with either your Cartier AD, or Cartier directly!

Hello, im interested in trying to take out a light scratch on the sapphire for my cartier roadster chrono. would you know if this watch carries 2 sided A/R coting or just on the inside? I know that i would only be able to try this if its on the inside alone. Thanks.
