The Rolex Submariner 5513 Maxi Dial … Back From the Spa

I just got this back from the authorized service center for a full movement service and a light refinish, and it looks great!  I was a bit worried that the refinish would be a bit over the top and would take away from the vintage feel of the watch, but my local watch guy did an amazing job.  Very subtle.  I wish I could hang on to this beauty, but unfortunately I’m selling it for a friend.  So, if you’re interested, for the right price, this thing could be yours!

The Rolex Submariner 5513 vs. The Marathon SAR

I’ve done reviews this week on two similar looking watches, the Rolex Submariner 5513 Maxi, and the Marathon SAR. It occurred to me that a quicl comparison post might be in order.

Both of these watches are intended to be dive watches, but the SAR is good to 300m/1000ft. The Submariner 5513 is good to 200m/660ft. You can see from this shot that the bezel on the SAR has significantly larger ridges to allow for better grip while diving.

The SAR also has a much taller profile as seen in this next shot.

So, is one better than the other? Well, the Submariner is a bit more refined, and has a lot more history, but I prefer the SAR. It’s a fun watch that gets the job done, and I don’t have to worry about what I’m doing because of the very reasonable price!
