The Invicta 9937 Pro Diver with Coin Bezel
I wish that these pictures were from today, but unfortunately today I am back in the office and not at the beach! Anyhow, because I was heading to the beach I slapped on my Invicta 9937 Pro Diver. I like to call this watch my “stunt double” because it is the one watch in my collection that I can wear just about anywhere without fear of something bad happening to it. The reason I call it a stunt double is that it looks a hell of a lot like a watch whose name I won’t mention here, but it rhymes with Schmolex Schmubschmariner. (Five points to the first person that gets what movie I’m referencing with that little joke.)
Anyhow, I know a lot of watch collectors are not exactly fond of the Invicta brand, but this watch is perfect for what I use it for. It still has a lot of great features, like a sapphire crystal, screw down crown, and a swiss ETA 2824-2 movement. The bracelet has solid end links, and a nice machined clasp as well. I also really like the screw in attachment of the bracelet to the watch case. It makes changing out the bracelet pretty easy if you don’t have a spring bar tool around.
I did a little bit of modifying to my 9937 because I wasn’t terribly fond of the polished center links on the bracelet, or the polished edge of the bezel. However that was easily remedied with a scotch brite pad and some elbow grease. Once I got rid of all the polished bits that I didn’t like, the watch had a bit more of a low-key appearance.
Finally, I am grouping this watch in the “Watches under $500″ category even though the MSRP is much closer to $1,000. The reason I am doing this is that you can find this watch for sale at any number of online retailers for $300-$400. All in all this watch is a great buy for the price, and can be worn pretty much anywhere without the owner having to watch their every move. Invicta may not have the cool factor or a Rolex or a Panerai, but this watch still gets the job done in style!
