Today I’m gonna wear the Baume & Mercier Riviera Magnum XXL. It’s a nice change from the oversized watches that I normally wear, but at 43mm, it is by no means a small watch.

The caseback has a cool exhibition window that gives a little peek into the insides of this beautifully constructed watch.

I love the sandwich construction of the case as well. With the exposed allen bolts, it gives the watch a substantial look.

The Cotes de Geneve finishing on the rhodium subdial plate looks awesome…and makes the dial easier to read.

I fall in love with this piece every time I put it on…there isn’t anything else like it in my collection, or most anywhere else for that matter!

Baume & Mercier Riviera Magnum XXL

This is the first really nice watch that I picked up once my watch habit started to take on a new level. Prior to this watch I owned a couple nice Swiss Army watches, and maybe a Hamilton X-wind. This was definitely a big step up for me. This watch was purchased to celebrate my graduation from business school and because of that it is one that I will never sell from my collection. I spent a lot of time researching, and trying on various watches to make sure I found the watch that I knew I would want to keep forever. After careful deliberation, I settled on the Baume & Mercier Riviera Magnum XXL.

I really love the 12 sided case since it is different enough to set it apart from a lot of other watches, but it isn’t so different than a round case that the watch looks outlandish. The 43mm case is just big enough to command the attention of anyone nearby, but is thin enough to fit under the cuff of a dress shirt. The combination of high polish stainless steel, a titanium bezel, and the rubber strap give the watch an unparalleled mix of class and sportiness. The Roman numerals used on the dial add an air of refinement, and the Cotes de Geneve finished rhodium plate surrounding the two chronograph dials greatly adds to the readability of the dial. The oblong shaped viewing window in the caseback is a nice added feature over and above the standard Riviera models. I usually save this watch for special occasions but every so often I like to bring it out just because. Looks like today is one of those days!
